Over a week ago the National Bookstore Great Warehouse Sale began, and a lot of book lovers freaked over this marvelous event. I got to experience it myself since I'm a bookworm as well, and let me tell you how spectacular it truly was.
This annual event happened at the Crossing Mall along Quezon Ave. where National Bookstore's warehouse is at the very top of the mall. I attended for 2 days, and I was wishing I went there for the whole week, so yes. It was that amazing.
On my first visit, I went with my little sister and it was nothing I expected it to be. Why? Because I thought it would be somewhat like the Book-For-Less Warehouse Sale, (the probably older than you kind of books), but it wasn't. So I immediately fell in love and ran, trying to see what I can get, but since we arrived late (thanks to the terrible traffic) I didn't get to grab the books that I wanted, most of them were already taken, although I did found some interesting ones such as The Left Behind Series that I've been dying to collect, which by the way only cost 50 pesos each rather than 500 pesos each. I also got Stephanie Meyer's The Short Life of Bree Tanner and Snow White and Huntsman for only 100 pesos each instead of 500 pesos, so I only paid 350 pesos for all the books I got, when it should have been around 2,500 pesos on a regular price, I saved more than 2,000 pesos, imagine that.
On my second visit, I decided to go with my best friend, Kyra, we agreed to get there as early was we can so we can grab the good books first. So I was there even before the mall opened, along with the others who are in line and ecstatic to buy books.
By 9am, the gates opened and we ran as if our lives depended on it, everyone immediately grabbed the baskets, push carts, pull carts, bags, boxes anything they can use to put their books in. And they started to run, getting books shelves per shelves, some were like even on a hunt, like a predator looking for its prey. Me on the other hand, panicked and just ran and took whatever book I think was good, and I ended up filling my basket in a very short time.
When I looked at my cart, the first thing I thought was "I think I have too much" so I needed to check my books, read the synopsis, and return the books that I don't want to the shelves.
As I began to sort my books, people started to gather around me, at first I wasn't entirely sure as to why they did, but then I realized that they were actually waiting for me. And I was right, when I finished sorting my books, people started taking the books I don't want and placing them into their baskets. It was a nice feeling. After sorting, I started to fall in line to pay and let me tell you, it was a long one but definitely worth it.
I've got a total of 17 books and paid 1,700 pesos for all of them, but if I were to pay for them in the original price, it would have cost me more or less than 10,000 pesos.
So here are my tips for you, if you are to attend on next year's warehouse sale:
1. Go early.
2. Don't read the synopsis, if it looks interesting just grab it and put it in your basket, then sort them out later.
3. Watch out for the warehouse boys carrying boxes, they are most likely books, when they place it down, dig into it, most of the good books are at the bottom of it.
4. Look for the people who are sorting, wait for them to finish and ask them if you can have the books they don't want, place them in your cart and sort it out later.
5. Have fun! It's a treasure hunt after all!
